Emu Eggs

The Emu eggs may look painted but they are all natural egg shell. The shell has three distinct layers to it and they are dark green outer,light ( or teal ) green next and white for the last layer. By carving down to the various layers you can get the different colors

to utilize in your designs. The carving is done with dental burs,using both diamonds and carbides,and the final smoothing is done with dental sanding discs,wet and dry sandpaper and steel wool. Some designs are done using just the different colors of shell while others are carved completely through the shell and the lightbox is used to emphasize these areas.
